Emergency Crews Respond To Roof Hail Damage In St. Paul, Minnesota, On May 19, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Less than two weeks ago, St. Paul, Minnesota had a storm that dropped baseball and walnut-size hail. RestoreMaster crews were there then and they are in St. Paul again, after larger than teacup-size hail pelted roofs, homes, and buildings. Hail this size drops at nearly 40 mph, causing significant damage.
Along with the hail, was heavy rain. Large, fast-falling hail breaks roofing tiles, shingles, and siding, and heavy rain with wind pushes water under the damaged protection and seeps into walls and ceilings causing mold and mildew damage, not good for the health of a building, nor for the health of the people inside.
RestoreMaster is skilled at remedying hail and rain damage in emergency situations, providing shrink wrap or tarps to reduce intake of water, hence reducing water damage inside.
A local hail storm map indicates that hail fell on eastern St. Paul, as well as the eastern suburbs as marked by dark orange patches. Hail between 1.25” and 1.75” fell in areas surrounding the larger hail and hail up to 1” fell, out to Highway 40.

I should add a disclaimer here that this was entirely my own fault for thinking I could outrun the storm. Turns out, I’m not that fast a runner. 😂@NWSTwinCities- can confirm we got a fair amount of hail in St. Paul (Como Park)! #mnwx https://t.co/XOBNDgW0hi

This storm has produced hail up to quarter-size in Minneapolis, nearly covering the ground in spots, and is tracking into St. Paul and nearby suburbs in Ramsey and Washington Counties. Hail could get bigger than this as the storm intensifies. https://t.co/8iwZbyRKLl

RestoreMaster has expertise in dealing with immediate emergency remediation after heavy rain and hail storms, which can cause various forms of damage, some very obvious and some not easily seen by inexperienced eyes.
Strong winds can rip open some roofing systems and cause severe roof wind damage.
Some older roofs can sustain damage from only 50 mph winds.
The severity of roof damage depends on several factors including: type and age of roofing materials, presence of flying debris, roof shape and angle, building height and proximity to adjacent structures and the quality of original roof installation.
Getting a roof inspection & property damage assessment after severe weather like this is important for determining whether you need to address roof damage from hail or high winds.
In situations where you’ve got a leaking roof, experienced disaster roofing contractors can stop the leaks temporarily, by laying tarp or by using a durable shrink-wrap plastic membrane in the affected areas, or even over the entire roof. This will keep your building protected until permanent repairs can take place. This will help prevent mold infestation from water leaks.
Get your roof inspected, even if you think there is no problem, especially if your property falls anywhere within the area of the hail and wind damage map.
Some storm damage symptoms take time to appear.
And deadlines from insurance companies could hinder you from filing a claim later.
