Emergency Roof Crews Alerted As Little Rock, Central Arkansas Pummeled By Hail & Tornadoes April 11, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Multiple tornados and hail pounded Little Rock and Central Arkansas on Monday, April 11th, leaving a wake of power outages, roof wind damage, and devastated property owners seeking emergency repairs. RestoreMaster alerted teams of commercial damage technicians to stand ready as community members reach out for emergency roof repairs.
The barrage of tornados and hailstorms drew national media attention as outlets issued critical alerts and covered the ensuing wreckage. At least four tornados cut through communities, and a funnel cloud threatened Little Rock Air Force Base while hailstones pounded buildings.
“A large, extremely dangerous, and potentially deadly tornado is on the ground," the National Weather Service reportedly tweeted at 8:34 p.m. CT. “To protect your life, TAKE COVER NOW!”
The University of Central Arkansas, located 30 miles north of Conway, was forced to cancel classes due to power outages and storm-driven flooding. Little Rock’s THV 11 News reported at least four EF1 tornados touching down. The local news organization indicated the first ripped Scranton in Logan County. A second high-wind twister was spotted near Mayflower in Faulkner County and traveled into Pulaski County. Other confirmed tornados brought property damage to Bloomer in Sebastian County and Charleston in Franklin County after traveling upwards of four miles each. THV 11 also reported, “there was plenty of damage due to the hails and strong winds.”
Local hail damage maps reveal multiple, fast-moving storm formations that pummeled communities as far east as Springs Village, north to the outskirts of Center Ridge, and as far west as Forest City. Yellow bands on the hail damage map system indicate ice balls approximately 1 inch in diameter, pelting numerous communities. Orange swaths point to ice as large as golf balls striking automobiles and causing roof damage in places that include Lonsdale, around Mayflower, Searcy, and northeast of Brinkley. But baseball-sized ice stones are highlighted in purple, and they battered Cabot.
Hailstones and tornadoes cause damage throughout the area, and storm reports by citizens cover social media.

The National Weather Service hail and tornado path maps show severe weather events moving from Southeast Oklahoma through Central Arkansas and trailing northeast across Jonesboro and the Tennessee border. Reports indicate the following areas sustained substantial damage.
- Beebe: Ice as large as a quarter pelted the region, with nearby Antioch experiencing hail as big as a half-dollar blanketing neighborhoods.
- Cabot: Among the largest ice stones jabbed automobiles and rooftops, leading to heavy losses.
- Conway: The Faulkner County community sustained multiple ice falls, with the largest exceeding the size of baseballs.
- Des Arc: Property owners in Prairie County saw 2-inch ice balls pelt the area, and roofs are likely compromised.
- Saline County: Widespread hail damage and high winds plagued property owners throughout the county. Bryant, Benton, Lonsdale, and Alexander were hit by ice 1 to 1.25 inches.
- Searcy: The White County community incurred three ice downpours with stones as large as ping pong balls, causing hail property damage.
- Mc Rae: Reports state that hail as large as tennis balls cracked roofing systems.
- Vilonia: Golf ball-sized ice covered the town with high winds adding to property and roof damage.
National Weather Service reports also identified damaged buildings in Faulkner County near Highway 89, I-40 around Mayflower, and a twister was sighted near the Cabot bowling alley. As inclement weather approaches, property owners are advised to contact commercial roof repair crews and make immediate repairs before rain degrades structural supports. RestoreMaster emergency roof repair technicians recently worked with New Braunfels, Texas, residents after hail and high winds damaged commercial building roofs.
Severe storms, bringing hail, strong winds, or tornadoes can cause severe roof damage, by ripping off roofing systems.
Some older roofs can be damaged by winds as low as 50 miles per hour.
Several factors will determine the severity of roof damage: the height of the building and proximity to nearby structures, the quality of work by the original installers, the shape and angle of the roof, the age and type of roofing materials, and the impact from debris.
Following severe weather like this, it’s important to get a thorough roof inspection & property damage assessment to determine whether or not you have roof damage from hail or wind.
Circumstances do not always allow for immediate repair of roof leaks. In the meantime, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can cover the roof or affected area with a tarp or with a durable plastic shrink wrap material, until such a time when more permanent repairs can be made. We need to stop more moisture damage, so we can prevent mold growth.
If your property was anywhere within the storm damage map, it would be best to get your roof inspected, even if you think your roof was not damaged.
Many storm damage symptoms are not always evident immediately.
And insurance company deadlines could hinder your ability to file a claim later.
