Emergency Roof Repair Crews Respond To Hail Destruction In Atoka, Coalgate, OK, on Monday, April 11, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
According to News 9, a tornado watch was issued for Haskell, Latimer, Le Flore, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, and Sequoyah counties through 11 pm on Monday, April 11th. From Monday through Wednesday, the strong winds and hail events were hyper-active across the Plains and into the Deep South. But on Monday, Coal and neighboring counties were battered by hail damage on roofs and automobiles as upwards of seven Oklahoma counties suffered ice stone impacts ranging from the size of a quarter to a large apple.
Local hail damage maps from this devastating storm show multiple weather patterns. One stretched as far east as West Valley Cemetery outside Wapanucka and paralleling Highway 3 as far west as Antlers. Another hailstorm ran north of Clarita through Coalgate and as far west as Daisy. The hardest-hit areas included neighborhoods south of Coalgate where orange and purple areas on weather maps indicate hail ranging from 2 to 3 inches. Maps also show orange hovering over Atoka and Antlers, indicating ice stones as large as golf balls resulted in hail damage on roofs.

- Braden: Ice stones the size of golf balls pelted residential and commercial buildings.
- Centrahoma: This Coal County area sustained the heaviest hail roof damage as ice balls upwards of 3 inches in diameter made landfall. Impacted by ice as large as apples, emergency roof repair remains a necessity.

Cities and towns that experienced 1-inch hailstones included Poteau in Le Flore County, Red Oak in Latimer County, and Bromide in Johnston County. The state’s severe weather typically peaks from mid-April through mid-May, often causing property owners to reach out to commercial roof repair specialists to repair cracks, torn shingles, and secure their structures from rain damage. RestoreMaster recently responded to destructive hailstorms and high wind damage by alerting roofing and restoration contractors to effect repairs in Garfield County, Oklahoma.
Severe storms, bringing hail, strong winds, or tornadoes can cause severe roof damage, by ripping off roofing systems.
Winds as low as 50 mph can cause some older roofs to be damaged.
Roof damage can be severe or mild, depending on various factors which include: materials used on the roof, impact of debris, building height and proximity to other buildings, age, angle and shape of the roof and type of roofing.
Following severe weather like this, it’s important to get a thorough roof inspection & property damage assessment to determine whether or not you have roof damage from hail or wind.
If roof leaks do occur, an experienced disaster roofing contractor can stop leaks with tarping or shrink wrapping, where affected areas (or the entire roof) are covered with a durable shrink-wrapped plastic membrane till permanent repairs can take place. That way you can prevent mold growth from water intrusion.
Rather than believing your roof is not damaged, if your property is anywhere in the area of the storm damage map, then you will want to get your roof inspected.
Some storm damage problems do not produce symptoms right away.
And deadlines from insurance companies could hinder you from filing a claim later.
