Roof Repair in Central Mississippi Following Damage From High Winds & Tornadoes on April 13, 2022
Commercial Roofing & Restoration
Residents of Central Mississippi ended their workday on Wednesday, April 13th, with high winds and tornadoes that caused damage to roofs, along with damaged siding on homes and commercial buildings. Many trees were uprooted, felled or snapped and thrown onto roads, highways and buildings. Utility poles were twisted, or snapped. Tornadoes dropped and sped through communities across Mississippi with focused destruction over Jackson and areas around Jackson. One tornado ran through a forested area to the west of Jackson. Others carved paths east of Jackson.
In Alcorn County, structures were damaged by an EF-0 tornado that touched down with maximum estimated wind speed of 80 mph. Unfortunately, in Olive Branch, people were trapped in a house after a tree fell on it. Injuries are unknown at this time. High winds caused roof damage to several commercial buildings and a gas station awning was destroyed. A home in Ashland had a tree fall on it, damaging the roof. Basic City had suspected tornadic activity, with structural damage along CR 350. A wall collapsed in Jonestown, with the high winds blowing brick debris 30-40 feet into the street. Crystal Springs saw wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph.
Eudora homes were damaged by trees falling on them. In Cross Roads, a tin roof was peeled off a shed. And significant roof damage occurred in Hernando. Overall, damage was significant to many buildings of all types. And RestoreMaster has been there helping home owners, business owners and property managers, with damage assessment, insurance reports and getting the buildings and structures back to pre-storm condition.
Reports abound of tornado and high wind damage all throughout central and Midwest states. This storm is part of the same system that brought havoc to the Louisville, Kentucky area. From the wind storm weather map, the large gray areas indicate winds from 58 – 73 mph. Smaller dark blue areas indicate winds from 74 – 95 mph with the black streaks throughout indicating tornadoes.

Uprooted or fallen trees, flying branches and debris can cause untold damage to house and building siding, roofing systems, doors, windows, and decks. RestoreMaster has the know-how to secure a damaged building until more permanent solutions can be accomplished. The team also helps homeowners and building managers deal with insurance claims and final restoration and repairs.
Tornadoes, hail, and even strong winds can cause severe wind damage to roofing systems.
Winds as low as 50 mph can cause some older roofs to be damaged.
Several factors will determine the severity of roof damage: the height of the building and proximity to nearby structures, the quality of work by the original installers, the shape and angle of the roof, the age and type of roofing materials, and the impact from debris.
Getting a roof inspection & property damage assessment after severe weather like this is important for determining whether you need to address roof damage from hail or high winds.
If roof leaks are a problem, they need to be addressed immediately. Experienced roofing contractors can either cover the affected area (or the entire roof) with a tarp or with a durable shrink wrap plastic membrane until long-term repairs can be made. Preventing water intrusion will help stop mold from growing.
If your property was anywhere within the storm damage map, it would be best to get your roof inspected, even if you think your roof was not damaged.
Some storm damage problems do not produce symptoms right away.
And insurance company deadlines could hinder your ability to file a claim later.
